Italian terms to learn for the 21st January 2015

A tempo- resume the normal speed
Accelerando- becoming gradually faster
Adagio- slow, lesiurely
Allegro- lively, reasonably fast
Allegretto- slightly slower than allegro
Andante- at a walking pace
Andantino- a little slower or a little faster than andante
Cantabile- in a singing style
Con-with
Crescendo (cresc.)- gradually louder
Da capo (D.C.) from the beginning
Dal segno (D.S)- repeat from the sign
Descrescendo (decresc.) gradually softer
Diminuendo (dim.) gradually softer
Dolce- sweetly
Fine- the end
Forte (f) loud
Fortissimo (ff) very loud
Forzando (fz) with  a strong accent
Largo- slow and stately, broad
Legato-smoothly
Leggiero- lightly
Lento- slowly

 Welcome to your first year as a GCSE music student!! This year you will join a morning music club, take part in morning assemblies and learn all the many parts of what it takes to be a musician.

 
 
 
 
Your Autumn term will consist of:
Baseline theory and practical testing: We check to see where you are musically.
Theory classes with Ms Patterson: You will learn the basics and start on your Gr.I theory course.
Practical, composition and set work classes with Miss van Jaarsveld: You will analyse, perform and compose in the style of works by Moby, Miles Davis, and Jeff Buckley.

Complete the activity 4.1 on Page 16 of your 'Getting Started with GCSE Music' (blue book). You can find all of the videos, if you follow this link:

YEAR 9 HOMEWORK

DUE: 15TH OCTOBER

Using blank manuscript paper, write 10 four bar rhythms (there should be four bars on each line).
  • You don't need to write a melody, just the rhythm (all on the middle line)
  • Make it as complicated as possible to practise writing your note values and rests.
  • Don't forget your time signaure.
  • For extra credit, change your time signatures.
  • You could use 2/4, 3/4, 6/8, 12/8 or even 5/4.
